Compare Automation

This is quick comparison of different automation products that businesses will typically consider when reviewing software to automate business processes.  There is no implied order of importance. As a short comparison only a few aspects of each product are highlighted.

About n8n

n8n is a low-code product. Source code is available and can be hosted on own servers. It is good for technical teams who want to build complex workflows faster.

Using n8n there is a drag n’ drop GUI which can be used alongside Javascript for more advanced workflows. The product has advanced functionality for implementing multiple triggers, as well as branching and merging workflows.

With 300+ integrations and customizable HTTP requests, n8n enables any API to be integrated into a workflow.

Price is per workflow.

About Make

Make is a platform for creating processes in automation systems with a focus on API integration.

Make provides simple “Blocks” to deliver the functionality of APIs and avoid the need for developing code. The blocks can be connected with a simple drag-and-drop. The blocks are also known as ‘Modules’ and the visual connections between them are known as ‘Scenarios’.

Make is hosted on AWS cloud.

Price is per Operation (Task). There are many Operations in some workflows.

About Zapier

Zapier is a no-code automation tool that lets you connect your apps into automated workflows.

It is good for handling simple tasks that don’t require complex conditional logic making it easy to get started, especially for non-technical users.

Zapier has a great range of integrations that can be configured, but if the automation needs more custom logic, a higher-tier licence plan is required.

Zapier is hosted in the Cloud within the USA and all data is held on those servers at least during execution.

Price is per Zap (Task). There are many tasks in some workflows.

About Appian

Appian is a Business Process Management (BPM) platform with Low Code development capabilities.

Orchestration facilities to power workflows which can be simple or complex. The features for process management include case management as well as dynamic workflows. There is a broad range of integrations available.

Applications created with the Low Code facility can easily be deployed to the orchestration.

Pricing is per user per month. There are standard users, in-frequent users and input only users.

About UiPath

UiPath provides Robotic Process Automation (RPA).

Automations can be created that make use of GUI screen interactions and / or usage of API interfaces. The cloud orchestration facilities provide queues, data storage, shared integrations, monitoring and log file storage.

The full spectrum of “Human in the loop” scenarios can be implemented with support for long running transactions.

UiPath has an open approach to the use of AI to leverage the UiPath AI product and publicly available AI models or commercially obtained AI models.

Price is per Robot. Each Robot can operate 24 x7. The capacity used depends on the automations that are executed.

The UiPath Robots are hosted on the client environments (Cloud or on-Premises) and execute within that environment ensuring no data leakage. Only monitoring and log data is sent to the UiPath cloud. Business data does not have to be placed into logs and can be stored locally.
