RPA - Robotic Process Automation
Robotic process automation (RPA) automates manual computer tasks that are predictable, repetitive, and considered routine. The tasks can be performed on either a scheduled basis, triggered by an event or manually initiated.
For the average office employee tedious tasks are notoriously error prone and time consuming. Tasks like filling in forms. Or making repetitive calculations, or cross checking information with other systems or web sites.
RPA allows processes to be undertaken by a robotic workforce. RPA is fast, perfectly accurate, tireless, and easily scalable. With UiPath RPA software, tasks that require no human intervention are known as “unattended”. Tasks that are partially automated are called “attended”. As tasks are performed by robotic processes, employees are able to perform other activity.
The introduction of RPA is achieved by automating the tasks undertaken by an individual person. This can develop into teams of Robots working continuously day and night, 7 days a week, to complete enormous quantities of work. Typically RPA software robots work at 10 times the speed of a person – you couldn’t type that fast!
As the number of Robots grows, they need to be managed and coordinated. This is achieved with UiPath’s Orchestrator product. Enabling priorities, dependencies and errors can be controlled. (Learn more about UiPath Architecture)
Ether Solutions work with clients to identify tasks that are suitable for Robotic Process Automation. A solution needs to determine a balanced use of Robots and human activity.
An important step in the potential introduction of RPA into an organisation is the development of a business case. Ether Solutions typically works with clients on the business case which needs to cover many aspects including:
- Do nothing scenario
- Current business process effort, volumes and time scales
- Costs of RPA implementation
- Benefits from RPA
- Risks from the introduction of RPA
- Quality control from the use of RPA
These business case topics are covered on other pages. A good starting point is the RPA ROI Calculator as this demonstrates the financial aspects to consider.
Ether Solutions provides software robot development using UiPath products. Ether Solutions builds and deploys the RPA solution. This activity includes the technical design and the use of development standards. As well as the construction of the software robot logic and the testing of the solution. Once the build is complete, Ether Solutions deploys the robots so that they can be utilised on an on-going basis.
Ether Solutions provides a range of packages summarised below. The services can include RPA development, implementation plus an on-going RPA support service to address bug fixes, software upgrades, break-fix integration issues, etc.
Silver Package
Gold Package
The service packages are based on a 12 month arrangement with other durations being available when required. All prices are subject to VAT.
Ether Solutions recognises that each customer will have particular requirements, hence variations on the above packages can be discussed.
The Robots listed in the packages are based on the UiPath Prices for the subscription licences.
For example there can be a need for more Robots or more Automations or Knowledge Transfer consultancy to in-house staff or different Robot execution hosting.
The complexity of the automation process is determined by a number of factors including:
- Number of applications / Web sites
- Number of interactions
- Variations in the interactions
- Quantity of data items checked / entered
- Error handling
- Use of AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Each UiPath RPA software robot provides capacity to work 24 x 7 which is 168 hours per week. The robot can perform different automated tasks at different times which means that both a volume of work can be completed and a variety of tasks can be performed.
